Concerns over illnesses like the coronavirus are spreading around the world at the moment. Unfortunately, a gym is already an easy place to pick up germs, but this is one of the many benefits of having your own personal gym at home. However, you still have to keep your gym nice and clean. Follow our tips for keeping your home gym clean.

  1. Have Wipes Handy

The best way to prevent the spread of germs is to make it a habit to wipe down equipment after you are finished using it. To make it even easier, make sure you have disinfecting wipes handy in your home gym so you can easily remove the germs on everything from home stationary bike to yoga mats you have used in your workout. Don’t forget to wipe down your phone, watch, and earphones if you use them during your workout too.

  1. Remove Dust

Like many places in our homes, a gym can collect quantities of dust, thanks to all the equipment. Dust is harmful to breathe in, especially when you are breathing heavily as you get through a workout. That’s why a second tip for keeping your home gym clean is to eliminate as much dust as possible. Use a vacuum and wipes to effectively remove dust that might be accruing in your gym.

  1. Wash Towels

Towels are handy in the gym to wipe down your equipment and to wipe your face and body after a workout. You can also place a towel on the equipment when you are using it too. With that being said, you also need to wash these towels after you are done using them. If you have a towel rack in your gym, make sure you have a hamper in which to place dirty towels.

  1. Keep the Floor Clean

To keep your home gym clean, you don’t want to forget about the floor either. While we know that we should mop and vacuum the floor, there is something else you should do: wear gym shoes that are just for your home gym. This way, you don’t bring in any dirt or mud from the outside.

  1. Wash Your Hands

The last tip to keep your gym clean is to wash your hands after working out. While wiping down is effective, washing your hands is still the best thing you can do to eliminate any germs. Make sure you are washing your hands for at least 20 seconds using warm water with soap. Washing your hands remains the number one line of defense when it comes to avoiding any sickness.
